The acknowledgement we received last week of being named the State Secondary School of the Year South East by The Sunday Times’s Parent Power Schools Guide 2024, is a testament to the relentless dedication and tireless efforts of every member of our school community. It speaks of our shared commitment to nurturing a school environment of academic excellence, a deep-seated sustainable culture and continued collaboration.

The achievement serves not only as a milestone in our journey towards our 900th anniversary, but also a reminder of our collective endeavours, fuelled by an unrelenting sense of moral purpose. Building people of character should be viewed as an essential mark of our authenticity. Our focus on the nurture of character, deeply respectful relationships between staff and students, the value of autonomy and the significance of curiosity, enables Reading School to achieve remarkable academic success, without ever making this our exclusive focus. When compassion, integrity and authenticity are priorities, then excellence follows.

A heartfelt thank you to each member of our community for contributing to this achievement. Together, we have proven that, when united by a common purpose, we can continue to learn, lead and serve.
