Year 11 students at Reading School have thrived and achieved outstanding results in their GCSE examinations. Reflecting on their progress, Deputy Head, Ms Lizzie Ayres, said:

“This is a really close-knit year group of students. They have supported each other while demonstrating excellence and curiosity while developing leadership and empathy. These young men have thrown themselves into mentoring local primary school children through our Future Stories programme, personally grown on expeditions around the world, and have now proven their capacity under exam conditions. We could not be prouder of them.”

Ms Ayres added:

“These grades vindicate the school’s focus on character education. Over the last few years, we have encouraged students and staff to think about the process of learning rather than fixating on outcomes. When relationships are right in the classroom, and when students lead with purpose and serve with generosity, the likelihood of positive outcomes increases.”

The School is particularly pleased with the outcomes in Photography (which has been examined for the first time), Modern Foreign Languages (where more than 80% of students were awarded grades 8 or 9) and Mathematics (where 136 students achieved grades of 8 or 9).

Headmaster, Dr Chris Evans, added:

“I would like to thank all of my colleagues for the exceptional care, guidance and expertise they provide, and hope they feel rewarded by these brilliant results. I would also like to thank parents for their partnership in supporting their children with the School’s aims. In our 900th anniversary year, we have enjoyed a very deep sense of community, and I am certain that our sense of purpose and belonging has contributed to the success of these students today.”

Reading School still has spaces available for Sixth Form students wishing to study A Levels in Humanities, Arts and Language subjects in September, and we would welcome enquiries via admissions@reading-school.co.uk.
