On Friday 28th November 2025, during Reading School’s Commemoration Day, our community came together to mark nine centuries of learning, service, and connection. In a moving ceremony, three generations of Reading School Alumni — Mr Ken Brown (OR 55–63), Mr Ned Holt (OR 66–72), and Revd Dr Chris Evans (OR 90–97) — accompanied the School’s youngest student, Tanay J (7C), as he lowered a time capsule into the historic grounds of the School.
Inside the capsule lies a small but significant archive, including a letter addressed simply to “The Headmaster — 2125.” This act symbolises that Reading School is held in trust by each generation, with the duty — and joy — of passing it on with gratitude, humility, ambition and care.
As the youngest hands covered the capsule with earth, there was a quiet understanding that what was being buried was more than objects. It was a promise to the future: that in 100 years, when the capsule is opened, the Reading School community of 2125 will find not just mementos, but hope, humour, and the unmistakable heartbeat of a school that knows where it came from and where it is going.
Here’s to the next century.
