ORs in the USA

Yesterday, the Headmaster enjoyed the final alumni meeting of his US tour. Over dinner in San Francisco, Dr Evans had the pleasure of meeting Nikhil Basu Trivedi, an extraordinarily successful tech entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Nikhil attended Reading School from 2000 – 2002, before moving to the USA. He studied at Menlo School and Princeton University, founding Artsy (https://www.artsy.net) while still an undergraduate. More recently, Nikhil has invested in incredible tech firms such as Canva, which Reading School uses for publications.

As Nikhil and Dr Evans reflected on the importance of character formation and academic rigour, Nikhil’s mother kindly shared his school reports from 2001 and 2002. For any current students aspiring to successful venture capitalism, we now have evidence of the perfect ingredients: in your Year 8 end-of-year assessments, aim for 88% in French, 97% in Latin, 90% in German, and 94% in Music. You can probably get away with 53% in Maths and 60% in Physics! Nikhil was awarded both the 7W and 8W examination performance awards as the highest-performing student in his class. He is an excellent role model for today’s students, demonstrating exceptional success and a commitment to giving back to others.

Meeting a recent alumnus who has achieved so much at such a young age, gives so generously, and is motivated by deep personal values was a great inspiration. While the School couldn’t console Nikhil for Manchester United's most disappointing season since 1990, we were pleased to present him with a souvenir shirt from the 2022 replay of Reading Football Club’s first match in 1872.

We look forward to working more with Nikhil in the future, and especially hope he’ll keep an eye on one of our best students from the Class of 2024, Isaac Badipe, who has a full scholarship to Princeton next year.
