ORs in the USA

Hosted by the remarkable Rick Stuckey (OR 1954-1962), the Headmaster had the privilege of reconnecting with Rick, Ed Jee (OR 2008-2015), and Adithya Sreenivas (OR 2011-2018).

Ed and Adi, both academic high fliers and eager sportsmen, shared a unique bond by studying both Chemistry and French at A-Level. Ed is currently in the fourth year of his PhD in Development Economics at the University of Chicago, while Adi is on a two-month placement in Chicago as part of his final year studying Medicine at UCL. We couldn’t hope for better examples of alumni who continue to give of themselves meaningfully and purposefully. We wish them both all the best in their studies and future endeavours.

Separated by more than 60 years, Rick’s experience at Reading School was quite different, yet his A-Level subjects overlapped with those of Adi and Ed. Rick recalled fond memories of his time in the UK, including school holidays, weekends, and a memorable school trip to Florence around 1957. He was an active member of the School’s scout troop and shared a delightful story about building a canoe that barely stayed afloat due to an excess of nails. Rick was entertained to hear about the resurgence of canoeing and paddleboarding at the School, thanks to the revival of the School boathouse.

With an Economist, a Physicist, and a Doctor around the table, this reunion was remarkable for the diverse skills and career paths represented by Reading School. Rick’s sixty years of experience in computing and consulting, including roles in historic projects like Singer Sewing Machine Company’s computing venture and Walgreen’s first US-wide database, added a fascinating dimension to the gathering.

All were invited to the 900th anniversary alumni gathering on 12th July 2025 and we eagerly await catching up with one another again.

If you would like to join in with celebrations taking place over 2025 please can we encourage you to either register or update your details on the Redingensians Community site at https://alumni.reading-school.co.uk/
