ORA Drinks in the City with Ned Holt

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible evening we had at the recent ORA Drinks in the City event.

It was a true pleasure to meet so many of you, and it was an evening filled with warmth and nostalgia as we were joined by esteemed retired teacher, Ned Holt and Jas Chhokar, Society Manager at Reading School.

Ned's warm welcome extended to all, whether he had the privilege of teaching you or not, added a unique and personal touch to the event. The evening was truly remarkable, offering a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and forge new connections.

Ned Holt shares a few words:

As many of you will be aware, I retired from Reading School in 2012. You may be less aware that I joined as a pupil in 1966 – a year better known for other reasons. Yorkshire won the County Championship, for instance. Undoubtedly, the best aspect of my time was the twenty years I spent as the head of Sixth Form, and that is probably how I came to know you, if it was not through the History classroom.

It was a great place to work, largely because of the people, students, and staff, I spent those years amongst. That is why I have continued to be involved, either through the ORA or the Reading Foundation. And it is the reason I found myself escaping from the rain into The Mug House at London Bridge last week. It was great to see you all. I hope that you will consider attending similar events in London in the future.

Ned's message resonates deeply with the sense of community and camaraderie we cherish among our Old Redingensians. As we continue to strengthen these bonds, we also look ahead to a remarkable milestone - our 900th anniversary in 2025. We want to ensure that you are well-informed about the latest news and exciting events we have in store for this historic celebration.

If you haven't already done so, please take a moment to register your details at: https://alumni.reading-school.co.uk/. Your participation and support are invaluable to us, and we want to keep you updated on all the incredible things happening within our alumni community.

Thank you to Fraser Peck (Vice president and Events secretary ORA) for organising the evening. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

Let's continue to cherish our connections and celebrate our history.

Thank you for taking the time to attend: James Linerdholme (1982), Dominic Field (1984), Lord Edward Young (1985), Jon Kenwrick MBA, BSc hons (1991), Oliver Neal (1997), Andrew Allen (1997), Vinothan Sangarapillai (1999), Nicholas Lax (2000), Jaspal Pachu (2001), Mark Saunders (2003), Andrew John, CFA (2003), Richard Rutherford (2003) Chris Noble (2009), Tom Russell, CFA (2014), Matthew Perry (2014), Frederick Akinbobola (2014), Freddie Reeves (2014) and we are sure there are a few names we have missed off, so please drop Jas an email at alumni@reading-school.co.uk if we didn't get a chance to connect.
