From Classroom to Parliament: Yuan Yang MP’s Story
We are delighted to welcome Yuan Yang MP, Member of Parliament for Earley and Woodley, who will join us on Thursday 26th March (Period 8) to share her inspiring journey into politics and public service.
Yuan moved to the UK at the age of four and went on to study economics, later founding Rethinking Economics, a charity dedicated to reforming how economics is taught. She spent eight years as a journalist at the Financial Times, including serving as Deputy Beijing Bureau Chief and Europe–China Correspondent, reporting on global economics, politics and social change.
Elected as a Labour MP in 2024, Yuan brings a unique blend of experience across journalism, economics, global affairs and public policy. In this talk, she will reflect on her pathway into politics, the realities of parliamentary life and the challenges and opportunities of representing a diverse community. Students will gain valuable insight into careers in politics, economics, international relations journalism and public service.
This talk is particularly suitable for A-level students, especially those studying Politics, Economics, History, and related subjects. Year 11 students interested in A-level Politics are also welcome. Click "RSVP" to register now!
Date: Thursday, 26 March 2026
