Following the Thanksgiving Chapel service, join us for a Riverside BBQ at the Reading School Boat House (Cow Ln, Reading, RG1 8EQ) from 12:30 – 15:30.
It will be a fantastic afternoon enjoying the summer atmosphere along the River Thames with the Reading School Rowing community.
This intimate, community-focused event is free and will also include a BBQ by Smoke and Braii.
During the event, there will be an opportunity to take part in a rowing or paddleboarding session. Spaces for water sports are limited, but we’ll do our best to get everyone who wants to have a go out on the water.
Rowing sessions will be guided by experienced student rowers and supervised by GB rower and Olympic coach James Stephenson (Stevo), James Powell, and Paralympic Gold Medalist Frankie Allen (TBC). Whether you're an experienced rower or trying it for the first time, it promises to be a fun and memorable experience.
Paddleboarding sessions will be led by staff members Daniel Wheal (Head of Chemistry), Michelle Hooker (Teacher of Mathematics), and Katie Rosser-Evans (Head of East House; Teacher of Chemistry).
A safety boat will be positioned nearby during the session, but we strongly recommend that all participants wear the life jackets provided. Ultimately, all adults are responsible for their own health and safety while on the water. On the day, you’ll be asked to confirm your swimming ability and any previous rowing experience, and to sign a waiver before taking part.
Water Activities
Please note that you must be able to swim in order to take part in any water-based activities.
There are no changing room facilities available, but we recommend you bring a change of clothes if you have registered to participate in a water activity.
