About Stefan Sanders (OR 1979 - 1986)
After leaving school in 1986 and completing an Economics Degree at Southampton University, Stefan Sanders (OR 1979 - 1986) followed his interest in rail by joining British Rail as a management trainee. In the early nineties, at just 25, Stefan landed an important role in UK rail privatisation, which opened his eyes to the potential of "selling" his experience and insights globally. Since 1995, Stefan has been a consultant, linking strategic thinking with pragmatic implementation advice, drawing on his 35 years of experience in rail. He has traveled the world advising on how to structure and operate railways more effectively and create and deliver impactful projects. He has worked across the UK, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, the Gulf States, Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He lived abroad in Malaysia and Australia from 2018 to 2023. After completing an MBA, he was fortunate to join Arup in 2003, where he has carved out a successful career (holding senior management roles) in a unique employee-owned organisation committed to shaping a better world.
